Add another poll to Trump’s tally of hypothetical victories. This time, a CNN poll found that in a hypothetical matchup between former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Trump wins the election 49% to 45%.
Despite Trump’s overall favorability being low, Biden’s biggest problem is he no longer has the support among specific demographics he previously had. For instance, young voters under 35 prefer Trump by one percentage point, 48% to 47%.
Independent voters also support Trump. While black and Latino voters favor Biden, the spread is not as significant as it once was.
It is still early in the election season, and polling is notoriously unreliable this early. Still, Trump has consistently outperformed Biden in hypothetical elections, and other demographic polls support the fact that Biden has lost support among previously-strong groups.
The poll also found that nearly 3/4ths of Americans believe the country is in bad shape.
Biden even trails South Carolina Governor and presidential candidate Nikki Haley, 49% to 43%. In a matchup between Biden and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Biden still loses, but only by 2%.
Biden has a gigantic uphill battle to climb, and he hasn’t started campaigning yet.
