Newt Gingrich blasted Republicans on Fox Business for the circus show in the House as they scramble like children to elect a new House Speaker.
“These folks have gotta calm down. The level of anger, the level of hostility in the conference – all of it started by the eight traitors,” Gingrich told Larry Kudlow.
Newt blamed the hasty ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy without a serious plan for who would replace him. Matt Gaetz led the shakedown and succeeded, and is now asking his supporters to fund his reelection campaign as the circus he created carries on.
Neither Steve Scalise nor Jim Jordan got the votes necessary to become the next speaker. Scalise withdrew his name from consideration for Speaker. Though Jordan says he is still in the running for the top spot in the House, he canceled the third vote that would have been held today.
“That’s what they were – traitors, who abandoned their party and allied with the Democrats against 96% of the Republican Party with no idea what they would do if they won. They have caused chaos. They have embarrassed the Republican Party and they have weakened the United States at a time when there are two major wars underway. And it’s really, truly, I think the most disgraceful behavior by Republicans in my lifetime,” Gingrich added.
