Nestled in the Brentwood hills of Los Angeles, a residence adjacent to celebrities like LeBron James and singer Fergie has garnered significant attention.
But not because she is a fellow celebrity.
An Airbnb guest staying in a luxury home refuses to leave after more than 500 days of living rent-free. According to the Los Angeles Times, she now demands $100,000 to leave.
The property was acquired by a periodontist named Aleksandar “Sascha” Jovanovic in 1995. Over the years, he renovated it and, in 2019, offered the guest house on Airbnb.
This decision introduced him to Elizabeth Hirschhorn, who initially sought a six-month stay over two years ago. Tensions arose four months into her visit due to guest house repairs. Consequently, Jovanovic extended her stay beyond the initial Airbnb booking, resulting in an unofficial agreement that Airbnb no longer mediates.
Complicating matters further, the guest house lacks the necessary permits, obliging Jovanovic to identify a legitimate reason for eviction, which he has yet to achieve.
Court documents indicate that Hirschhorn stopped making payments in April 2022 but continues to reside on the premises.
Berman commented, “I anticipate it will become more uncomfortable for her now, as I believe the entire neighborhood is aware of the situation.”
Jovanovic has publicly shared his ordeal to prevent others from encountering similar predicaments. He expressed his hope, stating, “Enduring a nightmare like this without feeling protected by the city or law enforcement is a dreadful experience I wish to spare anyone from.”
He reported that most of his previous tenants had positive experiences, saying, “It was genuinely a positive sharing experience, with many visitors coming from overseas for work or other purposes.” Unfortunately, he lamented, “Then this nightmare began.”
