$30 Million Or 30 Million Friends?

Welcome to Q & A Wednesday on Millionaire Habits, where I answer one of your weekly questions for everyone’s benefit. Have a question?

💡 Question: “Would you rather have $30 million right now, or 30,000,000 loyal friends?”

I posted a question on Twitter last week, and the answers I got were…less than encouraging. In fact, many were downright terrible.

    First, here’s the tweet.

The hypothetical question was simple: If given the choice between having $30 million or 30 million loyal friends, which would you choose?

Most said friends but for the wrong reason.

$30 Million or 30 Million Friends?

A lot of people chose friends. But not because of the companionship or emotional support they would provide.

“I’d ask for $100 from each friend,” said one commenter.

“I’d take the friends. If they were loyal, they’d each Venmo me $5.“

“Have them all give you 2 dollars. If they were loyal, they would do it.“

A lot of other people commented along those same lines.

Guys and gals, this is terrible.

Granted, some probably meant that to be funny. I get it.

But the first thing that pops into people’s heads is how they can exploit their friends into giving them money and making them even richer.

Sorry, but you won’t have very many loyal friends left once they figure out you’re just using them for money.

In case you’re wondering, I’d take the $30 million and run, for several reasons.

First, I don’t need 30 million loyal friends. I wouldn’t know their names, much less have the time to stay in touch with them all. I mean…really?

Second, I have no earthly idea what I’d do with $30 million, much less anything more than that. $30M is plenty for me, thanks.

Third, I’d be done. Like, DONE done. With 30 million, I could live anywhere I want regardless of the cost of living (okay, maybe not in a high-rise Manhattan penthouse, but I wouldn’t want to live there anyway).

A $30 million payday would set 99.999% of people on this earth up for life, provided they don’t squander it by living like a rockstar.

Why would I want to make the effort to exploit an impossibly large set of 30 million loyal friends so that I could get MORE money?

    Anyway, that’s me.

So today, I’m ending this a little differently. Instead of just answering a question, I want to ask you a question.

Which would you choose if you were given a choice between $30 million today or access to 30 million loyal friends?

See you in your inbox on Saturday,

    – Steve
