Check out this little interaction I had on the Threads app the other day.
Now, I get it. My original post probably tweaked a couple of people.
Mr. Tom Cheater was probably one of them.
But his response was a little curious.
According to Mr. Cheater, if I’m in my 40s and selling a financial independence course, I cannot give financial advice because…what, I’m not truly a millionaire or something?
Because if I were truly a millionaire, I wouldn’t need to sell a course on financial independence, I guess?
In what world does that come even close to making sense?
Imagine if Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Elon Musk, or any other multi-millionaire said, “Okay, I guess I’m done. I became a millionaire, so now I gotta stop doing things and live the rest of my life on the couch.“
In a way, this guy sorta answered his own question (or what I think his question/statement is). Yes, providing value that other people are willing to pay for is exactly how you become a millionaire.
Imagine that.
Whether you’re selling a course, renovating homes like some good friends of ours, running a traditional business, or just working a 9-to-5 job like I did, people pay for value.
That’s the difference between being a producer and a consumer.
Millionaires are producers. Complainers, like Mr. Cheater, is a consumer.
Want to become a millionaire? You need to offer something valuable.
Nobody’s going to pay you to sit on your ass.
So, what are some things you can start producing today to kick-start your journey to millions?
Loosely, we can break down your options into products and services.
Products
Products are tangible things that you can either hold in your hand or directly interact with.
Here are five quick ideas:
- Handmade Crafts: If you’re skilled at making jewelry, candles, or knitted items, you can sell them online on platforms like Etsy or at local craft fairs.
- Digital Products: Think ebooks, printables, or digital artwork. Once you create them, you can sell them repeatedly without worrying about inventory or shipping.
- Online Courses: If you have expertise in a particular subject, you can create an online course and sell it on platforms like Udemy or Teachable.
- Homemade Food Items: If you’re a whiz in the kitchen, consider selling homemade goodies like baked goods, jams, or specialty sauces at farmers’ markets or through local delivery services.
- Freelance Services: If you have skills like writing, graphic design, or coding, you can offer your services on freelancing platforms like Upwork or Fiverr to people who need them.
Services
On the other hand, services aren’t physical things, though you do interact with them. Services can be easier to get off the ground.
Here are five ideas for services you could start offering today to make some extra cash:
- Online Tutoring: If you’re knowledgeable about a particular subject, you can offer tutoring services online. Whether it’s math, language, or any other skill, people are always looking to learn.
- Freelance Writing: If you have a knack for writing, you can offer your services as a freelance writer. Many websites and businesses constantly need content for their blogs, websites, and marketing materials.
- Virtual Assistant: If you’re organized and good at multitasking, you could become a virtual assistant for individuals or small businesses. Tasks might include managing emails, scheduling appointments, or handling social media accounts.
- Graphic Design: If you’re creative and skilled with design software, you could offer graphic design services. Many businesses need logos, marketing materials, and other visuals to enhance their brand.
- Handyman Services: If you’re handy around the house, you could offer your services for small home repairs and maintenance tasks. This could include things like fixing leaky faucets, painting rooms, or assembling furniture.
Your options are limitless.
The idea is to choose one of these options and go for it. Dive in head first.
Despite what Mr. Cheater appears to believe, becoming a producer instead of a consumer is what will get you rich. Value sells.
