Last week, my wife and I got back from a Viking river cruise through Europe. We flew into Amsterdam, then spent two and a half weeks cruising along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers through Germany, Austria and Hungary. We ended the trip and flew back from Budapest.
Europe has a stupid number of castles and churches.
Here’s a shot of our cruise ship docked in Cologne, Germany. I captured this shot after dinner as we walked back from a brewery.
Notice that church in the background. 🙂
I won’t lie, this trip was expensive. We paid around $25,000 for the two and a half week cruise, which included a two-room suite on the boat and business-class flights to Europe for both of us.
We did it right. Flying business class with fully reclinable seats and your own private little “pod” made the flight to Amsterdam 100% more comfortable. We paid for the privilege, of course. Handsomely.
But this is what all that hard work is about.
The nights and weekends you spend busting your ass to build wealth.
The idiot bosses you gotta put up with along the way.
The saving and investing you do instead of blowing it all on Chinese tech.
It all comes to a head when you get to sit down at the dinner table and sample all the sweet fruits of all your labor.
And nobody can take that away from you.
My wife and I had experiences on that trip we will never forget.
Like flying business class, which we love.
Or exploring gorgeous areas of the world, which we also love.
Or spending time with family. Of course, love.
And being able to do it without worrying about the money.
That’s what this is all about. The adventures. The fun.
So, the next time you’re busting your ass to earn a living, never forget why you’re there. Never forget why you get up in the morning.
It’s not to work. That’s just a means to an end.
It’s to enjoy the hell out of life with the person you love and doing the things that bring a smile to your face every single day.
