    Lessons Were Learned

You know what I like to do at the end of a long year?

Yes, pound champagne at 12:00 am Jan 1 for no other reason than the new year is just beginning (woohoo for an excuse to drink?).

But more than that, I like to remember the lessons I learned that year.

The stuff that made me angry.

The choices that made me richer.

The observations that made me smile (or curse)

    For instance:

    The sky didn’t fall

All the doom and gloom bullshit you hear on the news and social media? It didn’t happen. The sky is still…the sky. You’re still breathing.

    Don’t listen to doomsdayers.

    Why?

Because there’s strong evidence (you know, the earth is still a thing, and the universe hasn’t imploded), they are wrong 100% of the time.

    Nobody acts on free advice

I learned this lesson the hard way, and it sucks.

But, sometimes, that’s how you learn lessons.

In December, I started a premium version of the newsletter.

Premium users still get the Q&A emails I used to send to everyone.

But now, people act on the advice, making my heart sing.

I get more emails telling me how they are starting their side hustles, asking for raises, and making better decisions with their money…

…based on the same emails I used to write, but now only for premium members who pay a small fee each month.

Lesson learned. When money is on the line, people act.

Your direction is more important than your speed

    This one’s a killer.

Ever heard the phrase, “Going nowhere, fast”?

This is what it means. Your direction – that is, your focus, your actions, and the force driving you in the right direction – is lightyears more important than how fast you’re moving.

Because if you’re focused on the wrong thing (or not focused at all), it doesn’t matter how fast you’re moving, does it?

    Your direction > Your speed.

Writing a book sucked less than I thought it would

I remember the first afternoon I sat down to start my book.

    The blank page.

The cursor…blinking at me like that beep from your smoke alarm you want to take a sledgehammer to just to get it to stop.

“Oh gawd,” I said. “This is going to take forever.”

Then, the first word came to me. Then, the second.

Suddenly, I had a whole sentence written. Holy shit, “I’m doing this.”

Five months later, I submitted the book, worked with editors, and boom.

The book was done. I held it in my hands for the first time just days ago.

Moral of this story? Just start. Put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

I never wanted to write a book or be an author, but now it’s an accomplishment that I’m damn proud of.

BTW, the book is available for order right here.

Getting into the best shape of your life isn’t as difficult as I thought

I’ve written about this before in the newsletter.

I dropped 25 pounds of fat in nine weeks, 5 weeks before my goal.

    I annihilated that goal.

Mind you, I was one of those “I can’t lose weight” people. Earlier in the year, I figured staying at 225 pounds was just how it would be.

Until I did something about it.

I found an online personal trainer. I followed his advice to the T.

    The weight started pouring off.

I still ate dessert, drank alcohol on the regular, and went out to eat.

Only…I kept that shit in moderation, tracked my calories, and worked out like an animal 6x a week.

    Want something bad enough?

There’s no force on earth strong enough to keep you from it.

See you in your inbox next week, and happy 2024!
